Wyatt not diecting Apes sequel after all?

UPDATE:
Word is now that Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In) has signed on the direct the seuqel. His two films so far have both been pretty well recieved. I think he could be a good choice for the film and he could match the original, atleast so I hope!

Share your thoughts below, do you think it will live up the original or will Reeves ruin it?

ORIGINAL POST:
More and more rumours are starting to appear that Rupert Wyatt, the director of surprise hit Rise of the Planets of the Apes, has dropped out on directing the sequel, titled Dawn of the Planets of the Apes. From what I can tell this is still just a rumour, however it is starting to look more and more like a similar situation, when Gary Ross said he would not return for The Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire.

The rumours say that Wyatt, similarly to Ross, decided to drop out due to the studio putting up a release date already in spring 2014 and he does not feel comfortable working on such a tight schedule. It is also said that he worries the film will not be able to reach the bar set by the original.

So then there is the question of who Fox will hire in to fill Wyatt´s absence. My suggestion right now would be Rian Johnson, who is getting a lot of positive buzz for his latest sci-fi flick Looper, and has at the moment no official projects. Whoever they choose I think it is important they try to find someone who has had critical acclaim within the indie scene and is a big up and comer. Just look how that worked out for Warner Bros. with Nolan.

So what do you think of Wyatt’s absence from the sequel? Will it hurt the series or do you think it will be beneficial? And also who would you like to helm the sequel? Leave you comments below!
